Copenhagen, Dec 17- Flaming barricades were erected and rocks and molotov cocktails thrown to preventing riot police from advancing into the autonomous Christiana neighborhood in Copenhagen on Monday night.

After a long day of demonstrations against the Canadian Tar Sands and capitalism as the cause of climate change, an evening party was held in Christiana, which has been a squatted and autonomous neighborhood in Copenhagen for about forty years.  Riot police cut off all exits to the neighborhood, deployed tear gas, and made about 200 arrests once inside.  The arrests bring the total number related to the week’s protests to about 1,500.

Activists with Boston Rising Tide hung a 30 ft banner reading “System Change Not Climate Change” from Harvard Bridge during the final days of the COP15 conference. “The United Nations process has systematically failed the world’s marginalized countries and consistently excludes those that would dare support and fight on behalf of those countries,” said David Bukett of Rising Tide. “We need system change to create a world which is truly just and sustainable to solve the climate crisis.”

Copenhagen – 17 December 2009 –With just one day of left of the Copenhagen Climate Summit, Greenpeace activists are sending direct messages to world leaders arriving today that they are failing to respond to the urgency of the climate crisis. 4 activists have curled down a banner with the message “Politicians talk, leaders act” while the French President Nicolas Sarkozy passing by from the airport to Bella Center where the UN Climate Summit is taking place.

Just moments ago, Greenpeace’s very own Head of State arrived at the Queen’s gala dinner for real Heads of State, 120 of whom are now here for the climate talks. Our distinguished faux-world leader and her entourage entered the dinner and held up two banners reading “Politicians Talk, Leaders Act.” We’re sitting here watching coverage of the action on Danish news as I type.

They were there to represent the millions of people around the world who want a fair, ambitious and legally binding treaty. World leaders risk condemning the world to climate chaos if they don’t take decisive action to steer the climate negotiations in the right direction on the final day of talks.

We also projected the message ” Don’t betray our children’s future” onto the Parliament building where the dinner was held.

Which way, Copenhagen or? Activists drop a banner that pays homage to the 1999 WTO roadsign theme.

Yesterday we dropped a massive banner in central Copenhagen. We dropped it over the corporate “Hopenhagen” greenwash campaign in the town hall square because Hopenhagen is damaging the planet!

What we need is real political power not ‘hope’! We’ve dissected the Hopenhagen campaign before [1] so we wont go on a rant but the best subvertising we’ve seen of it so far was ‘Shopenhagen’.

Our two climbers, (who are absolute legends by the way), were arrested and we’re trying to get them out. They should be out by tomorrow. ‘Hopefully’ Police brought 3 vans and 20 cops for our 2 hero climbers…
