US banner uses 50,000 activist signatures to send message to Obama

I bet you thought all the action was going down in Copenhagen right now — or at least you thought that until you saw our activists on the roof of the Candian Parliament.

Well, my colleagues back in the States have just taken action as well. About 20 activists unveiled a huge banner in front of the White House with an image of President Obama and the message, “Lead. Save the Climate!”

This went down during the announcement by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that it will act to cut global warming pollution under the Clean Air Act. This ruling makes it possible for the Obama Administration to take strong federal action to address climate change and also sends an important signal as the UN climate summit in Copenhagen got underway, because it gives Obama the means to act regardless of inaction by the US Congress.

The coolest part is that the image of Obama on the banner was formed with names of some of the more than 50,000 Americans who signed our petition calling for leadership from President Obama to solve global warming.
