Activists in Sweden attempted to make preventive arrests of staff at the Danish consulates in Malmö and Landskrona.
Demonstrators wanted to arrest danish consulate staff “in preventive purpose”
Armed with plastic strips some fifty people marched at lunchtime to the danish royal consulate in Malmö. The aim: To arrest the staff as a preventive measure.
MALMÖ. According to a press release the demonstrators planned to make a “preventive arrest the staff to stop more mass arrests and because the danish state violates the human rights”.
But to their disappointment the danish consulate chose to keep closed during the Friday. Maja Nilsson from the syndicalist youth association (SUF) walked in the front of the march with a bundle of plastic strips in her hand. – We had planned to go into the consulate to ask if they wanted plastic strips and sit outside in the cold. I think it’s a cowardly thing that they don’t dare answer our questions.
She was arrested herself during the demonstration in Copenhagen last Saturday and explains that she had to sit over three hours in the cold. -People around me were peeing themselves because they weren’t even allowed to go to the toilet.
The police vans stood parked in every corner of the square, but the demonstration was carried out calmly. -We understand that they do this as a symbolic act. They have the right to deliver their message, says the dialogue police Jörgen Petersson.

Activists were going to “arrest” the danish consul
LANDSKRONA. Left activists entered the danish consulate in Landskrona to “arrest” the staff in protest against the actions of the police at the climate summit in Copenhagen.
On account of the mass arrests in Copenhagen in connection to the COP15, a nation-wide demonstration was carried out on Friday in Sweden. The idea of protest was to make a preventive arrest of staff in the danish consulate. In Landskrona three members of the Left Youth (Ung Vänster) got inside the Danish consulate on Kungsgatan street to “arrest” the consul, Jens Basse. Symbolically they even brought plastic strips to show what methods the police used in Copenhagen. – Two of us were in Copenhagen last Saturday and were arrested even though we took part in a peaceful demonstration. What the Danish state has done is to put a gag on freedom of speech and we consider that a criminal act. That is why we do this symbolic act, says Cecilia Mattsson from the Left party in Landskrona. One of the demonstrators also read out loud a writing that the consul Jens Basse hardly was interested in while he spoke on his telephone during the whole demonstration that took place outside his office. -I got an uncomfortable feeling when they came and therefore i called the police. They didn’t act in a threatening way and therefore i didn’t report them to the police, says Jens Basse without commenting what the demonstration was about. – I talked to the embassy and we have come to the conclusion not to comment the issue. After about 15 minutes the demonstrators left the building undramatically and met the police in the stairs. And there wasn’t any arrests.
