“Hopenhagen” is Occupied at Cop15

Last night UK activist group Climate Camp demanded real solutions to
climate change while occupying corporately sponsored “Hopenhagen” at the
Cop15. Activists set up tents, held signs, and danced to stay warm for six
hours in sub-freezing conditions Thursday night in the heart of downtown
Copenhagen. One banner read, “Caution: Corporate Greenwashing!” Climate
Camp exposed the corporate “green-washing” that is being advertised and
sold to the world as solutions to the global climate crisis. Hopenhagen is
a blatant example of corporations trying to profit from climate change.
Climate change is a serious issue and should not be reduced a marketing
scheme. It is bad form to attempt to profit from this situation which is
affecting the livelihoods of millions of people. This action was held in
solidarity with Climate Camp activists who were simultaneously occupying
Trafalgar Square in London.

Earlier that day UK global justice group Egality dropped a 8×5 meter
banner over one of Hopenhagens largest billboards.”What we need is real
political power not ‘hope’! We wont go on a rant but the best
“sub-vertising” we’ve seen so far was renaming this place ‘Shopenhagen’,
said Egality’s spokespeople.
