Farmer’s action day

Pigs eat GMO soy, under a corporate driven globe at the farmer’s action day. In front of a agro-corporation’s headquarters, via Campesina defended the role of small farming in the struggle against climate change. More concretely, they were denouncing the ecological madness of creating animals in factory farms fed with Latin Amercan soy.

A representative from the Landlsess Movement, from Brazil, said that, in her country, soy monocultures already occupy 22 million hectares, with 40% of the production being exported. As a consequence of the expansion of agro-industry, farmers are expelled from their lands, slavery increases, the Amazon rain forest is destroyed, thousands of people are contaminated with chemicals, the unemployment increases and agrarian reform becomes harder. This mode of production aggravates poverty and environmental degradation, for the sake of private profit.
