12 December 2009 will go into history as the day when people flooded the streets, demanding a strong and equitable climate agreement. From the Klima Forum, a group of 5,000 demonstrators participate in the “flood for climate justice”, an initiative from NOAH (Friends of the Earth Denmark). The flood ended in front of the parliament, where it joined a huge crowd of 100,000 people.
The demonstration was supported by 538 organizations from 67 countries. Trade unions, churches, anarchist groups, left parties and environmental, human rights and development NGO’s joined this event to defend that rich countries must take their responsibility for creating the climate crisis. A often heard slogan is “System change, not climate change”.
